A downloadable tool for Windows
Focis: Computer Management Tool
Focis is a tool that allows you to manage shortcuts from various sources.
This tool is built for personal or professional use. Really whatever you want to do with it I'm fine with. If you want to use the source code then just add credits to "dracominer" and I'm all good. This was just a simple weekend project.
Focis can easily be set to open up an executable file, or a file explorer set to a certain folder, or even a custom command. Execution commands can be chained and are all put into one process. Each process could have well over fifty different execution elements but that is unnecessary. This could be used to quickly open up all of the applications required for devloping whether it be with code, art, or audio. It is pretty customizable as to what you can do with it.
As of Per Ignem (v.1.3) you can enter any command that you could into the command prompt and it will run the command. This can be used to run a more expansive variety of applications and even add in the capability of execution parameters.
As of Tactus (v.1.6) you can drag and drop folders or processes to a folder you want them to be in. You can also drag them outside of any folder to move them to the root.
Examples Of Use:
To Open Executable Files:
To set an element to open up an executable file (Batch (.bat) or Executable (.exe)), simply click the button next to the execution text box and it will open a file choosing window. Select the file desired and click the verification button at the bottom of the window. Then click "Save Element". Save the process and it will be ready to use.
To Open Folders:
To set an element to open up a folder, simply click the button next to the execution text box and it will open a file choosing window. Select the folder desired and click the verification button at the bottom of the window. Then click "Save Element". Save the process and it will be ready to use.
To Run A Custom Command:
When adding an element you simply put the command you want to execute in the execution path text box. See further examples for more details.
Open Up A Website:
To open up a website you must put
start <Website URL>
into the execution path text box
Run A Steam Game/Application:
To open up a steam game you must first go to steam and make a desktop shortcut of the desired application. Then open up the properties of the shortcut and find the shortcut target/URL it should look like: "steam://rungameid/somelongstringofnumbers". Copy it and paste it into the execution path text box. Write "start" with a space before what you pasted in. It should look like this:
start steam://rungameid/<game id>
The steam game will still run through steam. But the shortcut can be managed alongside you other shortcuts in Focis.
This application is something I made because I was bored and wanted it to be easier to use my computer. Ergo, I intend to keep this software free for everyone to use. If you find someone trying to profit off of this apllication, please let me know so I can get the to stop selling it. It's not worth any money anyway.
The application is about 200 kilobytes and runs on about 50 megabytes of RAM. It is designed to be a lightweight abstraction from using varied application managers.
My intention is to expand upon this to support mac and linux but I cannot test on those platforms personally. I may make some tutorials on youtube detailing how to use Focis.
The entire application is in the jar. All you need is to have java installed and double click on the file.
